Cosmetology at Portage Lakes Career Center

The esthetician program at PLCC is wonderful! The teachers are very knowledgeable. I was highly satisfied with the real life experience. This program has helped me feel prepared and comfortable to work with clients.

The cosmetology program is fantastic! Dawn and Felicia and amazing teachers that do so much for their students. Next year they are doing two different start dates, one in fall (August) and one in spring (January). The facility is extremely professional and such a welcoming environment. The teachers are focused on making you a great cosmetologist, not just passing the test. If you’re thinking about going here it’s definitely worth it!!

 This is an awesome program because you are in and out in 10 months. The teachers and people you will meet will most likely become your best friends. You get so many amazing tools that you get to keep with you after graduating as well. You go more in depth than just passing state board. And there will be 2 classes next year which will be awesome!!

The reason I chose this program is because of the smaller classes. The class is about 11 adults right now and we get to experience the one on one that we need. The teachers are absolutely wonderful and patient. They are always willing to work with you if you don’t understand something, they also give different ways to do something so that you can find your own style. They are very caring and there for you when you need it. I absolutely love the environment this school provides , it is welcoming and homey feeling ! Everyone is so very kind and they listen very well. I highly recommend the adult cosmetology class!

My instructor, Felicia, has been my brightest Starr the entire time! She has motivated me to challenge myself not just as an esthetician student but also in life. She has been my biggest cheerleader making sure to highlight any accomplishments I have achieved. I am happy to have her as my instructor.

I would highly recommend this program. There is a lot of one-on-one learning which really helps. The teachers are wonderful, especially Dawn Simpson, and they really care and want you to do well. The salon is beautiful and updated with everything you could ever possibly need. Deciding to do this program was the best choice I ever made!

I was looking for a career change, and now I’m thriving while doing what I’m passionate about. The instructors are kind, but also real and strict when they need to be. The classmates are extremely helpful and supportive while we all learn and grow together. Deciding to transfer to PLCC was the best decision I could have made for myself, and I’m happy to be doing what I love a little later in life rather than never.

I would definitely encourage you to go through this program as opposed to a private beauty school. First, you're going to get a better education. Second the cost if far more affordable. And there are continuing education opportunities. The small class sizes and structure is amazing too. Their students have the confidence and knowledge to succeed. Their graduates are not insecure when they get into the workplace like I've seen from others. And confidence is key. You won't be afraid to try things with this training. You have been prepared to succeed.

I think this is a wonderful educational opportunity that has a humble and healthy culture. The tuition is also less than many schools yet I think the education is just as good as what students are receiving at other cosmetology schools. At my salon company we have very high standards and graduates from PLCC have assimilated beautifully into our workspace and culture. Going into the cosmetology and beauty industry can be very rewarding. I have hired many associates from numerous beauty schools and my experience with employing people who graduated from PLCC has only been positive. 

I think that the training here is great because of the skillsets that my employees have who are graduates from PLCC. They reference and referred to many of their experiences that they had in the program where they learned what they are experiencing in a real salon culture.
